Fifth Moon (フィフス・ムーン, Fifusu Mūn) is the twentieth chapter of the Trigun manga. It is also the final chapter of the third volume of the Tokuma Shoten release and the final chapter of the second volume of the Shōnen Gahōsha release.
Summary[]
In the church, Wolfwood, finishes off the masked assailants and Legato appears before him asking if he’s Chapel. Vash continues his duel with Dominique the Cyclops and reveals her Demon's Eye along with its hypnotic powers. Furthermore, he reveals how he figured out the ability to overcome it. Conceding defeat, Dominique tosses her coin piece and commits suicide by jumping off a ledge, Vash tries to stop her, but fails and then passes out due to exhaustion.
Back at the church, Legato accompanied by the Gung-Ho-Guns learns of Dominque's demise, but thinks nothing of it. Soon a doctor along with a woman arrives at the church and the doctor discloses that Knives will have made a full recovery. The reason as to why the Gung-Ho-Guns were ordered to congregate there is also explained. Afterward, Wolfwood laments on his new assignment and it's then that one of the Plants in town activates. Glowing in a brilliant way, Knives spawns from it causing Vash to have a meltdown. Vash tries to go to the source of the light, but Meryl stops him and is then scolded by Milly. Being obstinate to the ladies' pleas, Vash explains his history involving the July incident and warns them to escape or die.
Arriving at the scene of Knives' rebirth, Vash is immediately surrounded by the Gung-Ho-Guns. Right before Legato could give the signal to make the Guns attack, he's overpowered by Knives. The two brothers then have a back and forth conversation with each other as Wolfwood watches and notes the tension between the two. Knives and Vash's conversation continues about Vash's scars and how the use of the Angel Arm caused a memory block. The doctor tries to intervene, but fails and Vash almost recognizes the man before Knives forcefully activates Vash's Angel Arm. Trying to have Vash aim the weapon at the town, Vash diverts the gun's direction to the 5th moon and fires it off creating a giant hole.
News of this incident would spread across the land and for the next 2 years Vash the Stampede would be forgotten.
