Desperado (DESPERADO) is the thirty-first chapter of the Trigun manga. It is also the eleventh chapter of Trigun Maximum.

Summary

A flashback shows, Brad stuffing a woman named Jessica into an escape pod that later crash lands onto the planet.

Wolfwood then daydreams about the kids in his orphanage only to be abruptly awakened by Vash's horrible driving skills. Although Wolfwood wants to reprimand Vash for his carelessness he realizes Vash's horrid condition and drags him to a nearby inn at a town. The son and the father who owns the inn talk about whether Vash or Wolfwood will be the one who pays. The father then changes the subject where he suggests his son Rob should stay in town to help him with a problem that has arisen there, but Rob refuses.

Later that night, Wolfwood reflects on some words Vash once said to him. Elsewhere the father armed with a shotgun heads off into the night leaving his son Rob behind tied to a chair. A shriveled up Vash exits his room and approaches Rob. While untying Rob, he details that due to his family debts, the Gomez Family took away his mother as collateral. Hence is why his father went out to rescue her. Much to Rob's chagrin, Vash follows Rob to the Gomez Family Estate.

At the estate, the father named Jefe is confronted by the Gomez Family leader Holland and his men. Before Holland could finish off Jefe, Rob throws a bunch of liquor bottles at Holland and his group soaking them all with the substance. Although unintentionally, Rob drops the lighter he was holding and sets off a conflagration.

The following day, Vash and Rob's family return to the town where they're given a tepid response from the locals. Soon after they reach there, the Gomez Family appears behind them and Holland tries to kill them, but is shot down by Wolfwood. He then points a pistol at the unconscious Vash and thinks how he could travel with such a person. Vash, though, then mutters something about not being able to eat any more donuts, which, makes Wolfwood, cool off.
